Historical Event on 8/20/1828
Brahmo Samaj, the first movement to initiate religio-social reforms, was founded by Ram Mohun Roy (1772-1833) in Calcutta. Influenced by Islam and Christianity, Roy denounced polytheism, idol worship, repudiated the Vedas, avataras, karma and reincarnation, caste and more. The first session of Adi Brahmo Samaj was held in the rented house by Kamal Bose of Chitpore Road in Jorasanko area in Calcutta.

1/18/1999	The office of the Board of Control for Cricket in India is ransacked allegedly by Shiv Sainiks protesting agains Pakistan team's tour of India. Shiv Sena denies hand in attack.
8/15/1947	Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru becomes the first Indian Prime Minister of free India.
3/23/1968	Atul Satish Wassan, cricketer (Indian pace bowler 1989-90), was born in Delhi.
9/29/2000	A special court convicted former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao and his then cabinet colleague Buta Singh in the JMM MPs' bribery case. Nine others got benefit of doubt.
8/15/1854	The first train of the East Indian Railways steamed out of Howrah station destined for Hoogly, which was at a distance of 24 miles. It was the first passenger train catering to public traffic. Officially, it was inaugurated in 1855.
3/23/1986	The first women's company of Central Reserve Police Force camp was raised in Durgapur.
7/25/1813	First boat race started at Calcutta on the Hooghly river where seven sailing boats had competed.
