Edward VII, King of Great Britain and Emperor of India, died suddenly of pneumonia at Buckingham Palace tonight. He ruled Britain for nine years. Power passed immediately to his son George, the Prince of Wales, who will rule as King George V. The 68-year-old monarch's sudden death threw his country into a state of shock. Edward had apparently caught a cold during a visit the past weekend to the wet grounds of his estate at Sandringham.

8/19/1946	Cabinet Mission's plan announced an interim government, which was formed by reconstituting the Viceroy's Executive Council. The Muslim League took umbrage and started direct action. Riots broke out as Muslims attacked Hindu's in Calcutta and the rest of Bengal. The Viceroy persuaded the Muslim League to join the government. But the League declined to join the Constituent Assembly unless the demand for a seperate state of ""Pakistan"" was conceded.

8/5/1975	The RSS, Anand Marg, Jamat-i-Islami, and 23 other organisations were banned. Parliament approved Conservation of Foreign Exchange and Prevention of Smuggling Activities Act (COFEPOSA). Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) approved by the Parliament.
3/10/1922	Gandhiji arrested for the first time in Bombay on the charges of sedition at Sabarmati.
1/21/1922	Juda Reuben, cricket Test umpire for 10 tests from 1969-77, was born in Mumbai.
