It is important for a diabetic patient to watch what ever is put in the mouth. Just like meals, snacks should be a combination fat, protein and carbohydrates. Here we will discuss about the some good healthy snacks for diabetic patients:

Whole -grain crackers, grapes and cottage cheese (paneer)

Nutrient -rich whole grains like cracked wheat, whole wheat, rye and quinoa can lower blood sugar and cholesterol. The cottage cheese is rich source of protein that can stabilize blood sugar, control hunger pangs and provide calcium also. Grapes rich of minerals and vitamins will complement the taste and will satisfy the desire for sweets.

Homemade popcorn

Every body loves to eat popcorn; they are rich in fiber and again being a whole grain helps to control cholesterol. They will serve purpose if they are made at home without butter, additives and artificial flavorings. You can sprinkle seasoning of your choice such as like garlic powder, parmesan cheese to add taste.

Apples and cheese

An apple a day keeps a doctor away. Fruit is an important part of any diet; same rule applies for diabetes also. Apple provides fiber and important nutrients. Here portion control is important because fruit itself is a high in sugar, so be careful while adding fruit to meal plan. It is better to choose fruits with lower in natural sugars, such as berries, melon and apples. Again the cheese (cheddar) will add taste and provide protein that will help to control hunger pangs.

Black bean salad

Black beans are high in both fiber and protein that helps to control blood sugar and hunger pangs. Fiber can help to lower cholesterol. One can add tomatoes and other veggies, which will add taste and variety of nutrients as well. Adding of seasoning will make it tastier.

Vegetables and fresh yogurt dip

Raw vegetables are rich in minerals, vitamins and enzymes. The yogurt provides protein and calcium.
